The naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5 is the long-term-reliability pick. Owners routinely report 150k+ miles with minimal drama. No systemic engine failures documented across 2019-2024.510
2.5L Turbo — real but manageable concerns
The turbo (Carbon Edition / GT Reserve / Signature) has a documented 2021 valve-stem-seal defect causing excessive oil consumption. Class action settled March 2024 — the fix was a 2-year/24k-mile powertrain warranty extension and claim filing (deadline Oct 2024, now closed). 2021 turbo CX-5s are still on the road with this liability; 2022+ turbos have the corrected seals.710
